Ice Cream- Kyd The Band Review

Image
The second wide release single by Kyd The Band, this song builds on American Dreamer without repeating it. The song starts with a deeper guitar than the one that opened American Dreamer, instantly giving this song a darker tone. The first verse is also vocally deeper, adding to the song's darker tone. The song has great guitars, with a backing electronic bass and peculiar echoing synths. The song's lyrics are the darkest part of the song, weaving metaphors of ice cream around the theme of loving someone that is only using you, and knowing it, too. Because this song has similar cover art to American Dreamer, it could be the second single for an upcoming debut album or EP. Ice Cream gives Kyd The Band more layers, and is a great herald of how varied they could be without changing from their guitar-based pop-rock/rap sound that will no doubt lead them to greatness. This song was so good, it made me want more Kyd The Band, and I can't get enough.

Sacred Hearts Club- Foster the People Review

I really don't know what to think about this album. Some of it is boring and grating, but it can be pretty good. This is the third album by Foster the People of Pumped Up Kicks fame, and departs from their normal and tire indie pop sound for a darker and more electronic sound. They claim that it's influenced by retro psychedelia and such, but it's really just hip hop. The album starts with the stellar songs Pay The Man and Doing It For The Money, which when they originally came out I listened to over and over again. They have excellent electronic elements, are well crafted, and have memorable but perplexing lyrics. After that is Sit Next To Me, which I've already railed as basic and boring, so there really isn't anything for me to say about it. SHC has a great indie pop guitar, driving beat, chorus, and some very memorable lyrics, but has some very annoying vocals and electronic parts. I Love My Friends is extremely annoying, and invades your ears with its grating...
