Man of War- Radiohead Review

Image
I've never heard much Radiohead before. But today I heard Man of War, and it was good enough for me to ponder slogging through years of old records in the hopes that I'll find one just as good. The lyrics to the song are crooning, which match up perfectly with the twinkling piano which runs throughout the track. Their's also a great driving guitar line, which sounds dark without being too dark, as to not take away the song's sad and drifting mood. Overall, a very effective single to bolster their new greatest hits album,  O K Computer OKNOTOK 1997-2017.

Something Just Like This(Tokyo Remix)- Coldplay and The Chainsmokers Review

Image
Clearly, I don't see any good change in all of this. This remix seems just like a live version of Something Just Like This, the horrid EDM clusterfuck which paints Coldplay in a bad light. A live recording of presumably their show in Tokyo(hmm, Tokyo Remix? never woulda guessed it!), and an excuse to have a video of that performance seen through a kaleidoscope, as in the companion EP to A Head Full of Dreams that Coldplay will release later this summer, which actually only has two songs on it that haven't been released yet. This song has the same terrible keyboards and up-in-your-face shimmery and pounding synths, courtesy of The Chainsmokers' terrible style. I was originally glad to hear Chris Martin's voice on the radio, but when I realized what he was singing made no sense and that the song wasn't very good, I came to dread it. How did Adventure of a Lifetime not get this popular? Hopefully what Coldplay wants to miss is any collaboration with The Chainsmokers a

How Did We Get So Dark?- Royal Blood Review

Image
When I first tried to review this album, I wanted to do it song by song. But I realized that it wouldn't work, as Royal Blood's new pure rock album has a continuous sound not seen nowadays that deserves to be reviewed as the 34 minute fest of powerful drums and angry, distorted bass guitar it is. The title track is a good introduction to this album exemplifying how Royal Blood can be good if they pour their emotions into a song without it feeling fake or wrecking it. But late in the song the singer is replaced by backup singers needlessly repeating the chorus while it should've given way to the guitar that really dominated it. The next song is Lights Out, the song that introduced me to Royal Blood and not one that wanted to make me a fan. It feels forced, and ends with too many "yeahs" that don't do the song any good. The third song, I Only Lie When I Love You, starts off badly with its childish chorus, but ends up well instrumentally and has some real

The Man- Killers Review

Image
I'll admit, I haven't heard any Killers songs past Mr. Brightside, so I can't form an opinion on the band itself. But I do know that their new song, The Man, is a definite but good departure. Just like Phoenix's new album Ti Amo, it is a throwback to disco. Phoenix's album was a new take on it, with a lot more synthesizers than most people in the 70s could've afforded. The Killers also have their own take on disco. It's a lot more muscular and guitar heavy than Ti Amo, which I like. I think that this song is a really good return to guitar based disco, and sounds very good. Obviously, The Killers are trying to reinvent themselves after not having a major hit in almost 15 years, and this might do the trick.

All I Can Think About is You- Coldplay Review

Image
Coldplay's disgusting collaboration with the Chainsmokers, I was a bit apprehensive of what would happen on their new song, All I Can Think About is You. When i heard it, it didn't seem quite so bad, but wasn't particularly good. The first part is a throwback to their old sound, with a few minor changes. Instead of being piano-heavy, its bass-heavy. The lyrics are soft, but they sound more dreamy, as if Chris Martin still hasn't come down from the out of proportion. clouds of the Up and Up video. The song breaks into a decent guitar part very late in the song, but is overshadowed by the piano.  This seems to be a return to Coldplay's pre-Viva la Vida style, which wasn't bad but got them rated Band Most Likely to Put You to Sleep in Britain. This isn't a good transition, and isn't very good. I hope that instead they return to their Viva la Vida style, with great guitar driven songs.

Astronaut- Sir Sly Review

Image
After Sir Sly's good and relatively popular first album(which included a spot on MLB 14 The Show for their popular single Gold), the pressure was on for them to make an even better second album. This was mirrored in their quiet 2016 single Expectations in which they asked "How did expectations get so high?" They proceeded to meet these expectations with euphoric single High in 2017 which reached 6 on the Billboard Alternative chart, and cemented their power as an Indie Pop-Rock band. Now they've released their new single, Astronaut, which takes a slightly darker view on the theme of High. The chorus says "Live a little, dropping acid... don't think it'll ever do the damage they say." This takes a more cautionary tone than High, regretful instead of euphoric. The speaker didn't think he would have issues with drugs, and ends up with the problems related to drug addiction. The song feels like it could come after High on an album, due to its s
