World Gone Mad- Bastille Review

Image
Ah, just what the world needs right now- more Bastille. I've been listening to more of their music in the last few days, and my opinion on them has gone up and up and up. They're just so versatile and always good... alright, let's get to the review. This one appears to be from some upcoming movie, but that doesn't really matter. It starts with some basic acoustic guitar, and the excellent voice of Dan Smith, which makes this song- just like everything else by Bastille. Then some basic drums launch it higher and higher, with a violin accompaniment. The only downside of the song is a terrible one off falsetto, much worse than the falsetto he uses in other parts of the song. It ends excellently, with a minor key violin solo. This is definitely Bastille at it's best- but when is Bastille not?

Seven Sticks of Dynamite- AWOLNATION Review

Image
I'm not really feeling this song. Passion was excellent, and AWOLNATION is promising Here Come The Runts to be their best album yet. But when I heard this song, I wasn't so sure. The guitar is way too slow and basic(better in the chorus), and the verse has a horrible falsetto that does not work. the chorus is okay, but doesn't really make up for the verses. The end gets better, but doesn't really get up to the heights it could. I like how the sophistication of some of the guitar work, but beyond that it's not that good. So far, Here Come The Runts is one and one. Passion was good, and this isn't. Aaron Bruno is breaking new ground, because he hasn't done anything similar before(he has done grunge), and some hiccups are to be expected. hopefully for Here Come The Runts, he won't have many more.

The Sherlocks 11/6

I was scared I wasn't going to get in, because I had to buy the tickets at the door, but there still were tickets and it was really cheap. Best Behavior opened, a great local Indie band that filled the stage with their energy, and had nice interplay between their instruments, and good vocal harmonies. The Sherlocks played everything off Live For The Moment except Motions, and it all sounded great. The band broke it down after three songs, starting with just an acoustic guitar and then building back up again. I especially liked how well they translated the songs to the stage, with all the awesome riffs and various guitar work done perfectly. It was pretty funny because their parents or relatives from England were there, so one of the Davidson brothers came out with new Doc Martins(they sponsored the show) on and talked to them before the show. I'm really glad I went- both bands were excellent.

Weekly Playlist- Week Of 10/29

Last Night- The Sherlocks The Blackout- U2 Say- Best Behavior Sad Songs- Kyd The Band Talk Too Much- COIN Thank God I'm Not You- Himalayas Fun- Sir Sly Ti Amo- Phoenix This week I've really been jammin on Talk Too Much, Thank God I'm Not You, Say, and Fun. What's been maddening me is that Sir Sly hasn't said if they're playing in NYC or not- they're touring with K.Flay and she's not coming back to NYC because she already came with Imagine Dragons at the concert I was at! Crazy, right?
