Passion- AWOLNATION Review
This song starts off with an upbeat drum and bass line with Aaron Bruno singing in a falsetto over it. But the real fun doesn't start til' the chorus: shouted but not hoarse vocals(unlike Imagine Dragons), and the excellent distorted slightly electronic guitar that is AWOLNATION's signature style. It calls to mind High by Sir Sly but with less of a cerebral component and more moving over to let the instruments do the talking. This works two ways- the lyrics aren't as developed, which is somewhat made better by the quality of the vocals and all of the separate parts that come together to make the song great. The song swiftly builds up to be broken down to drums and the constant refrains of "blow my mind" and "passion".
Overall, a great start to hopefully an excellent and more charismatic third AWOLNATION album. They've brought in just enough warmth and indie pop to perfect their sound, making Passion a definite alternative radio hit. My only problem is the underuse of meaningful verses, but it's still a lot better than some AWOLNATION songs that don't have many vocals or are overly experimental(they're still pretty good though). But only one song has been released so far- only time can tell how good AWOLNATION can get.
