HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON'T- Fall Out Boy Review

Finally Fall Out Boy names a song in caps like it should be, but it's not appropriate because the lyrics are strangely not shouted or screamed. This is the fourth single for MANIA, the long delayed and much maligned upcoming Fall Out Boy album. The first two singles, Young And Menace and Champion, weren't so good, but The Last Of The real Ones almost made up for their peculiarities.

My main tissue with this song is that Fall Out Boy is beginning to make such catchy overproduced earworms that they're basically meme music. beyond that though, it's a decent song, for a pop song. I like the mix of instrumentals, with it's breakdowns to drums, flute, ample bass(I can't tell if it's real), and occasional reggae guitar bits. It all fits together really well, and for a song obviously written for the radio, it's actually something I'd be able to listen to over and over, but I wouldn't listen to it on my free time. I think that it may actually become a hit, as it's the most marketable of the mixed bag of current Fall Out Boy singles.

As far as the singles so far have indicated, MANIA will be another mixed bag of pop rock randomness, but with a little more experimentation than American Beauty/ American Psycho. I'm not really excited for it, except to see how it shapes up- if the singles are so varied and they'res only four so far, the album must be crazy. But until then, we'll see if this actually lives up to the radio potential it could and was designed to have.
