Cheetah Tongue- The Wombats Review

There's a massive amount of new singles to review, so bear with me. I'll probably pass the 100 post mark without even realizing it, and only be half done with all the reviews. The Wombats have released two song for their fourth album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life so far, the first, Lemon To a Knife Fight showing off their return to their original sound and the second, Turn even becoming a minor hit. Sadly, their tour was inconveniently planned, and I couldn't go, but based on those two songs and the rest of their discography I spent all of January 9th wishing I was there.

The song with a riff that seems like the type that would belong to their new album, but then some electronic synthes and beats back it, harking back to Glitterbug. The song is a bit heavy in the amount of guitar compared to Glitterbug, but the electronic kicks and snaps bring up the question: just how much will The Wombats change? The lyrics for this song are very psychedelic for a band that is characterized by brutal honesty, but the best part comes between the words in the instrumentals. The riff is just excellent, and when backed by some almost Nu-gaze electronics it seems like it could've fallen off the end of a slightly heavier and better version of The 1975's Sex EP. The bridge is a bit weird, with just acoustic guitar and those electronic snaps, but the decent chorus is repeated a bit too much.

So based on this song, at least 3/11ths of Beatiful People Will Ruin Your Life will be excellent, if not the whole thing. So far The Wombats have kept everything solid, and February Ninth will bring the fourth candidate to compete for the title of best The Wombats album ever.
