AWOLNATION 2/22 Concert Review

Setting Up For AWOLNATION
AWOLNATION(a bit blurry)
I've been planning to go to this concert pretty much since it was announced essentially on the strength of the first single from Here Come The Runts, Passion. I even listened to some of the supporting band's music, like Nothing But Thieves' Sorry and Amsterdam, and Feel Good Inc. by IRONTOM.

I've never been to Terminal 5 before, and I have to say it was pretty nice. It didn't have the same floor space as Brooklyn Steel, but it's multileveled design was much more comfortable. It felt like it was designed as a music venue, and a pretty good one at that- I especially liked the upcoming concert listing and free water. IROMTOM opened with lots of energy, mixing vintage metal with newer alternative flourishes, hyping up the crowd with their antics and power through their short set, but sadly didn't play Feel Good Inc. Nothing But Thieves also had a brief set, but brought some good energy to keep everyone interested, performing their hits Amsterdam and Sorry, mainly from their new album. They didn't fit very well with the other two bands, and I'm pretty sure some people came just to see them. AWOLNATION put together a fantastic light show, and brought even more energy than the last two bands because the audience participated even more. They really engaged the audience, with everyone singing along and lots of dancing down on the floor. They mainly played songs from their new album, all better live, and heavier takes on some from their first album. The instrumentalist all had tremendous energy, infusing lots of life into every song. They only played one song from their second album, which was luckily Run, the best song on there. The weirdest part wasn't the rugs, lights, Aaron Bruno's suspenders hat and cloak or the potted plants, but the outro to Passion, Sound Witness System. One guy came on the stage especially to proto-rap the song, which was a bit weird considering they probably brought him along just to do that.

I'm considering going to upcoming concerts by The Neighbourhood, Sir Sly, Cigarettes After Sex and Vance Joy, so I'll review those, too one I go to them.
