Paradise- George Ezra Review

Image result for paradise george ezraGeorge Ezra was a massive sucess, for good reason. He's got an excellent voice, plays the guitar pretty well, and has extraordinary charisma. That being said, and european viewers will definetely know at least one of his top ten singles from his last album, which was a hit almost everywhere. He released the first single for his second album last year, Don't Matter Now, an okay song that never took off. (A side not- he also released a cover White Christmas, and mabsolutely killed it). Now he's released Paradise and announced that his next album will be called "Staying at Tamara’s".

Paradise starts with the same kind of call and response verse, just like Don't Matter Now. This probably means that much of the album will have it, as the only two songs released so far had it. Sometimes that kind of thing works but sometimes it is way too clunky, but it works well enough in this case. The beat is of course a driving kick drum, setting the song up to be a pop anthem, George Ezra folksy style. The prechorus is impressive, with a petty good falsetto (George Ezra is known for his deep voice, so this is a bit weird), and high, little cascading guitar lines. The chorus is best towards the end in it's third iteration, bringing it's normally mediocre power and composition to a almost desperate crescendo.

I think Staying at Tamara's should be decent album, possibly not as good as the now-classic Wanted On Voyage, but not really letting down anything. What has been let down is expectations: Don't Matter Now did poorly in the UK, and Paradise hasn't charted for long, but is trending downward. This song definitely deserves to chart, and I just think it's a matter of time before it smashes out into the mainstream.
