Thought Contagion- Muse Review
I've never really listened to much Muse beyond some superficial listening to their numerous blockbuster singles (Uprising, Dig Down), as they're a bit too heavy for me, in the wrong way. I like bands like Royal Blood and Himalayas, but they're pretty different. But then I saw this song in the trending of iTunes, and I thought it was so good I'd like to review it...
This song is also pretty heavy, but it's well mixed, with vocals (both the backing and main), guitars, drums and synthesizers all have equal power and prevalence in the track. The song starts off with a brief build up to the powerful guitar and synthesizer intro, a skittery, purely drum backed verse, which is eventually backed by some additional, out of place keyboards. It flips between these and the powerful choruses, with hard-hitting drum and guitar backing behind lots of ooh-oohs, the only song where these actually fit. The vocals are pretty skillful, moving between many different methods of singing very quickly and seamlessly, even if the lyrics are a bit random.
Overall, a decent track, perfect for Alternative radio, powerful, hard-hitting and well crafted. It may not be my favorite or an instant classic, but it's definitely convinced me stay tuned for any new material they should put out.
