Void- The Neighbourhood Review

Image result for void the neighbourhoodThis past year has been a big one for The Neighbourhood: two EPs, lots of buzz and a hit on Alternative radio, Scary Love. The first EP, Hard, was an eclectic Indie affair that was slightly better than the second EP, the very electronic To Imagine. And now we have this new song, Void, and the announcement of The Neighbourhood, their eighteen track, eponymous third album. It'll include both EPs, and is a bit weird as most bands' first album is eponymous, not their third. Anyway, let's get to the review, shall we?


The instrumentals are some very spacey, modern and electronic, with keyboards similar to the ones all over Too Imagine and drum beats that are reminiscent of real drums but still very artificial. They set up for Jesse Rutherford's vocals, which are halfway between his normal style and a newer one originally shown on Stuck With Me, kind of waving to and through with the beat. The lyrics are very emotive, full of longing, and the vocals and song are well structured and put together. Later in the song, more synthes and even a guitar make guest appearances, but the best part is the really good outro, stripped back to just the essence of the song, but still leaves a big impact.

The Neighbourhood should be an excellent album on the whole, possibly even as long as ILYWYS by The 1975, a grand masterpiece of over an hour. I think Void has the potential to become an Alternative radio hit, similar to the songs on To Imagine but much more charismatic and a little less experimental. I expect the new album to get in the top five in the US album chart, and if it doesn't, what is the world coming to?

Finally, The Neighbourhood is going somewhere. I Love You. was okay, but it wasn't fully developed and left room for improvement. Wiped Out! was extremely boring, except for RIP 2 My Youth, which was probably one of The Neighbourhood's best songs. And those mixtapes- unnapealing, and getting them nowhere. Wonderful Wonderful(Deluxe)- The Killers Review

It's finally here. After all the anticipation of four singles and a bunch of over the top late night TV performances, the new The Killers album has come out. So let's jump right in! Wonderful Wonderful, the title track and first track of the album, is a gigantic reverberating experimental piece that's okay, but I really don't see its point. I've listened to The Man tons of times before, and its masculine disco swagger never ceases to be the strutting pop rock arena-ready song that it is, a good song for the radio and perhaps even better in a gigantic stadium. This song is what helped revitalize The Killers after their not so good recent albums, and while not matching Mr. Brightside with everything from its opening words to its great breakdown for the bridge, it comes close. Life Is Beautiful- Coldplay Review

Coldplay has had a tradition of charity singles, and they'd like to keep that up. On October eighth, they played a new song live in San Diego(with a broadcast to Mexico) called Life Is Beautiful, to support victims of the recent earthquakes in Mexico. It hasn't been officially released(I don't know how they think they'll get profits from it to aid Mexico), but is easily available online. It features a mix of Chris Martin's energetic strumming of an acoustic guitar and some sort of bubbling keyboard(or guitar based on how occupied Johnny Buckland was during the clip) and sense of optimism that make it fit in perfectly with A Head Full of Dreams. Chris Martin seems to confuse Mexico with Spain by starting the song with an "ole" call and response with the crowd, but I don't know maybe it's Mexican, too.
