All The Things I Never Said- Pale Waves Review

Image result for all the thing i never said pale wavesPale Waves exploded into the world last year with a tour with The 1975 and the almost-hit singles Television Romance and There's A Honey, produced by the very same The 1975. Then they released the singles New Year's Eve and My Obsession for the three track New year's Eve EP, but later released The Tide as a third single and made the EP four tracks long.

The EP starts with New Year's Eve, and some synthes that seem to float with the angels and Heather Baron-Gracie's voice echoes just below them. Then in launches a slow guitar riff made of the interplay between the two guitars. The chorus is a bit, faster, a good tempo for the uncertain lyrics. This song is well produced, with the electronics and filters all working very well. The Tide has a bit of a better riff, with just as good mixing, production and mixture of instruments. There's no stopping Pale Waves, so they move through all the different verses and choruses with perfect instrumental backing, and then there's the electronic drumbeat bit after the second chorus that is surprising but fits very well. My Obsession also has a bit of a slow riff, and some glittering backing keyboards to the gentle electric-snap backed verse. The rest of the song is full of longing, with one line from the first verse summing the whole song up "I'll die by your side/ If you want me to." After the second chorus is a better riff than the first, almost bripop-y, with a subtle vocal loop in the background that heralds good production. Heavenly, the only song new to this EP, is very powerful, a perfect upbeat anthem, with a swift pace. It would also make good dance music with it's driving beat and riff, and is also perfect for a radio hit. The various pieces move throughout and fit together very well, to perfect it's anthemic sound, with a great guitar solo towards the end.

The short but sweet Heavenly ends this excellent EP, which has really shown the power of Pale Waves. They're destined for great things, and hopefully they'll release an album soon to get there. I'll definitely get this an Television Romance on vinyl, but I'll wait and get the What A Shame EP by The 1975 and Las Smoke Before The Snowstorm along with it, because it's all the same excellent record label.
