3in1! Pretty Shining People/ Hold My Girl/ Saviour- George Ezra Reviews

Image
As you probably know, a lot is resting on this new album. The first album he put out was a true breakout, with two UK top ten hits and a hit in pretty much everywhere with a chart to track it. The mediocre Don't Matter Know kicked off the single parade for this album last year, but didn't really make a dent anywhere. Paradise, an excellent pop anthem, George Ezra style, looked like it would do the same, but suddenly picked up steam and jumped to the top 20 in the UK in the past couple weeks. And now we have these three songs, all coming within two weeks of each other, so I decided to review them together. Pretty Shining People is the kind of narrative song that has fallen out of fashion. It starts off slowly and still pretty catchy. The chorus is much faster and more anthemic, and brings in some drums. I think the basic acoustic guitar that ties it together is pretty good, and the extra little drum and keyboard bits work well with some electric guitar to strengthen the song ...

Nervous- The Neighbourhood 3-9-6-0- Small Time Giants <3></3- Small Time Giants No Excuses Just Explanations- Small Time Giants Heart Shaped Pillow- Small Time Giants Ones and Zeros- Small Time Giants Typhoon- Young The Giant Heavenly- Pale Waves As you can see, I've been listening to a lot of Small Time Giants. They're a really good indie band from Greenland, a bit like a cross between Coldplay, U2, and The Wombats.

Nervous- The Neighbourhood Review

Image
The Neighbourhood have been on fire recently, with two EPs of varying styles, and now a whole upcoming 18-track album. There may even be a "mixtape" EP after that, so that two year drought after Wiped Out! has definitely been filled. And now, this single, expressly for that album, also called The Neighbourhood... The start of the song has some atmospheric synths, and some typical NBHD lyrics. There's also decent electronic drums and later some good acoustic ones, too. More importantly, some winding bass and faraway but very thankfully still there guitars weave in and out of the background. The song isn't very fast or loud, but it shows great artistry sometime not entirely found in some of their previous quite and slow songs. The second verse picks up more steam, and even though the guitar is too low it works with the mix. Towards the end another guitar with a different riff comes in, fitting the song much better and having a thankfully higher volume. This song is...

All The Things I Never Said- Pale Waves Review

Image
Pale Waves exploded into the world last year with a tour with The 1975 and the almost-hit singles Television Romance and There's A Honey, produced by the very same The 1975. Then they released the singles New Year's Eve and My Obsession for the three track New year's Eve EP, but later released The Tide as a third single and made the EP four tracks long. The EP starts with New Year's Eve, and some synthes that seem to float with the angels and Heather Baron-Gracie's voice echoes just below them. Then in launches a slow guitar riff made of the interplay between the two guitars. The chorus is a bit, faster, a good tempo for the uncertain lyrics. This song is well produced, with the electronics and filters all working very well. The Tide has a bit of a better riff, with just as good mixing, production and mixture of instruments. There's no stopping Pale Waves, so they move through all the different verses and choruses with perfect instrumental backing, and then ...

Next To Me- Imagine Dragons Review

Image
Imagine Dragons have been doing pretty well recently, with two top five hits and a number two album that's stayed in the top 20 for more than a year. I even went to their concert, on the US leg of their first tour for EVOLVE. On the wave of all this success, they've released this song, Next To Me, and their second EVOLVE world tour, featuring Grace VanderWaal. The song with some basic acoustic drumming that feels like a cheesy Garageband loop, but luckily some folksy acoustic guitar that wouldn't be out of place in a Vance Joy song comes in, and covers over it. Dan Reynolds launches straight into the theme of the song, with his longing yet bewildered lyrics that the person he's longing for wants him back. His voice is a bit of a drag, but he commands it very well and you know he's doing it intentionally, so at least there's talent there. The chorus isn't as much of a classic Imagine Dragons intrumental buildup, more going toward a U2-style proto moan, wit...

AWOLNATION 2/22 Concert Review

Image
IRONTOM Nothing But Thieves Setting Up For AWOLNATION AWOLNATION(a bit blurry) I've been planning to go to this concert pretty much since it was announced essentially on the strength of the first single from Here Come The Runts, Passion. I even listened to some of the supporting band's music, like Nothing But Thieves' Sorry and Amsterdam, and Feel Good Inc. by IRONTOM. I've never been to Terminal 5 before, and I have to say it was pretty nice. It didn't have the same floor space as Brooklyn Steel, but it's multileveled design was much more comfortable. It felt like it was designed as a music venue, and a pretty good one at that- I especially liked the upcoming concert listing and free water. IROMTOM opened with lots of energy, mixing vintage metal with newer alternative flourishes, hyping up the crowd with their antics and power through their short set, but sadly didn't play Feel Good Inc. Nothing But Thieves also had a brief set, but broug...
